What is the Vanguard Urologic Institute?

“Vanguard” is defined as “any creative group active in the innovation and application of new concepts and techniques, and occupying the position of greatest advancement or leading position in any given field”. Consistent with our name, the mission of the Vanguard Urologic Institute is to embrace new ideas and technologies in science and medicine, bringing the best of them to our patients.

Our commitment as physicians and researchers

Our physicians will always be the most highly trained and skilled, striving to provide our patients with care tailored to their specific needs. Our researchers will always apply the newest technologies and ideas to solve the most difficult problems facing our patients.

Our facilities support our commitment

Our state-of-the-art outpatient facility in the new Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza Building in the Texas Medical Center helps us optimize patient care.

The new Vanguard facility features

The Texas Prostate Center

Within the Vanguard Urologic Institute, Dr. Slawin has established the Texas Prostate Center. Its mission is to extend advanced technologies to patients with prostate disease, specifically prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Dr. Slawin has tapped the knowledge and experience he gained over 15 years as Director of The Baylor Prostate Center to provide a unique level of service and individualized care to patients.

The Texas Continence Center

Also within the Vanguard Urologic Institute, Dr. Appell has established the Texas Continence Center, which is dedicated to treatment and research in the sub-specialty area of voiding dysfunction and incontinence in both women and men.
